Summary

The rate schedule to the Water Cess Act, 1977. It sets the maximum cess per kilolitre for four purposes of water consumption: industrial cooling, spraying in mine pits or boiler feeds; domestic purpose; processing in which the pollutants are easily biodegradable, non-toxic or both; and processing in which the pollutants are toxic, not easily biodegradable or both. A higher maximum applies where the consumer fails to comply with section 25 of the Water Act or with Environment (Protection) Act standards. The Central Government specifies the actual rate by notification, subject to these ceilings.
